New York Giants player saves fan from certain personal injury

New York Giants tight end Martellus Bennett is being hailed as a hero by some for catching a fan who plummeted from the seats of MetLife Stadium Sunday. Slips, falls and accidents are, of course, one of the leading sources of personal injuries in our country.

Apparently, Bennett was standing near the stands because he was trying to throw his gloves to some young fans as a souvenir.

It isn't quite clear what happened, but the male fan, whom Bennett estimated to be about 48, leaned forward in an apparent effort to catch the gloves, but leaned too far and fell forward and out of the stands.

Bennett was standing below and broke the man's fall, which likely prevented him from being injured.

In a press conference after the game, Bennett was good-humored about his possibly life-saving move, quipping that he "generally preferred it" when female fans fell out of the stand.

Although this is one of those "all's well that ends well" stories, not every accident story ends this way. Every year, thousands of New Yorkers suffer personal injuries because property owners have not maintained their premises in a reasonably safe manner, or because someone else was careless in some other way (i.e. a driver who is texting behind the wheel.)

Luckily, people who are injured through no fault of their own have the option of filing a lawsuit over what happened to them. Success is never guaranteed, but many people find that taking this step is worth their while.
