Two-car accident results in two dead, one injured

A two-vehicle accident in New York recently resulted in the deaths of two off-duty correctional officers and injuries to one off-duty officer. The car accident took place between Snyder and Church Avenue in East Flatbush.

The crash occurred when the off-duty officer was heading for his home in his Ford Explorer. The 23-year-old policeman was traveling south, while the correctional officers, aged 31 and 43, were traveling north on Kings Highway in their Nissan Murano. According to sources, the accident took place when the correctional officers' vehicle suddenly lost control, entering the southbound side of the road. The off-duty policeman then crashed into the passenger side door of the correctional officer's SUV.

The impact of the accident resulted in the death of both correctional officers. The policeman was taken to Kings County hospital and was released after treatment.

The cause of the accident is not yet clear, but according to the report of a witness, the correctional officers were speeding before the accident. Alcohol may have been involved; investigators discovered an alcoholic beverage container in the vehicle of the two deceased officers. The results of toxicology tests will take some time.

Injury victims in an accident where another party was negligent - perhaps by violating a traffic law like the speed limit, or by driving while intoxicated - have the right to pursue compensation from the negligent party for their injuries and the associated expenses. Victims of car accidents should, however, seek advice from an experienced personal injury attorney in order to protect their rights and develop a successful legal strategy.
