Hit and Run Accident Injures Upstate New York Child

A three-year-old boy was seriously injured last week in the upstate New York community of Kingston. As of Sunday, there were still no leads and police have not located the driver. The boy was struck by an unknown vehicle on Koenig Boulevard, which is a divided high-like section of U.S. Route 9W.

Police said the accident occurred around 10:10 PM. The driver fled the scene. Witnesses reported seeing a dark vehicle heading south on Koenig toward Port Ewen. However, it was unclear whether that vehicle was related to the accident.

The child apparently walked away from his babysitter and wandered onto the roadway. Last Friday a police spokesperson said that the department was trying determine whether the babysitter might be criminally liable. The child did not live in the nearby apartment complex, Spring Brook Village.

The boy was treated by EMTs at the scene and then taken to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was subsequently transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit at Westchester Medical Center. His condition was upgraded from critical to serious last Friday.

The Kingston Police Department is asking for help locating the driver of the car.

The boy celebrated his third birthday in the intensive care unit last Sunday.
